RV-7 builder requires a repaint

Postby wingnutzster » Fri Mar 30, 2012 8:48 am

Hi you talented repainters and modellers, I am building a fullsize RV-7A tip-up and am at about 80% completed with first flight expected around end June. I am a mega fan of Danny's and particiapte in all his forums and eagerly followed development of this magnificent model. I mentioned a number of times how often I would refer to Danny's model for aesthetic and assembly info on components I was installing on my bird (there is no substitution for the Van's builder drawings but as good as they are they often leave a lot to the imagination, especially in the finishing stages) were it not for the close community of builders and wonderful resource of builder photos online, and now most of all Danny's RV-7 for reference (especially because I can zoom, rotate and really focus in on whatever component I am working on and get a really good look at how it looks installed or where it goes etc) I would have to guess at a lot of the assemblies and finishing installations. Now I need some help from you painters - I need to preview (mostly 'prove' to my detractors) the paint scheme I designed for my bird so I need a repaint. The scheme is a very simple base white ('arctic' white) with yellow (Ferrari yellow) topside from the cowling to the stab - very much like the Van's factory 7 demonstrator but the yellow and white are divided by a wavy silver ribbon.

I can provide the color codes and psd/Ai swatches, I have the original designs in Ai which includes side, top and underside views in true color. The tail number, logos etc are also included as artwork and fonts and I can provide drawings and detail of the cabin interior too. Basically the interior was coated in a matte silver and the the seat cushions, arm rests, sidewalls, floormats and stick boots are leather and carpet in a base of light grey with white and yellow trim to match the exterior and includes a custom logo at the top of each seat back. the patterns are pretty stock standard so Danny's stock seats. mats and cladding etc can just be repainted. As I mentioned all the artwork, fonts, color swatches and codes will be provided with all the reference drawings and details necessary to pull this off accurately. The interior would be as important as the exterior for preview purposes.

Please help, if you think you can help give me a shout at wingnutzster@gmail.com

This sounds like a really fun project, I'm sure it'll get some interest. If you have any trouble finding someone let me know. Do you have an on-line builder's log? It would be great to have a look at where you're at :D

Hi Danny, it seems a common among the repainters who have replied that the interior might present some difficulties - would you be interested in tackling the interior yourself? Should be straightforward, just a recolor of the existing patterns and fabrics.
