This support forum is the best place to discuss any difficulties with your latest version of RV7/7A, v01-06-08.
The Beta forum isn't going anywhere ;) but it's more for posterity now.
For new users we need a fresh page, where the most current and accurate info can be found fast.
I will list the most important need-to-know items in the announcements section.
Cheers,
Danny

Pitot heat needed

Postby Howard_S » Tue Mar 06, 2012 3:13 pm

Up until yesterday, I have not had a single issue with the latest RV-7 release. All of my past beta issues have been resolved; it flies as real as is possible in FSX. I especially love the realistic stalls! The RV-7 is now my default FSX aircraft!

Yesterday, I lost my IAS gauge while flying VFR under a low overcast, dodging scattered snow showers. I suspect that my pitot tube iced up while I flying through the edges of some of these snow showers. Icing conditions were ideal: high humidity, pecipitation, and outside temp just below freezing.

All of my past beta flight testing was done in "standard weather." I never noticed that the RV-7 had no pitot heat until now. I tried using my Go-Flight panel's "pitot heat" switch, but the airspeed needle never came back to life. Fortunately, using the AOA lights on final allowed me to fly at the proper final approach and flare airspeeds, and make a good normal landing.

Can I edit the aircraft.cfg or panel.cfg file so that my Go-Flight pitot-heat toggle switch activates the FSX pitot heat function? If not, can pitot heat be added in the next patch?

Hi Howard, It's good to hear from you. There are a couple of things that come to mind.

First we should confirm you are using the release version (v01-06-08)...and it does sound like you are. I just say this because, a pitot heat switch was added only lately, and it was in fact disabled previously.

The new switch is next to the parking brake on the lower panel, labeled “PITOT” (#12). Regrettably this addition caused a label error - which will be fixed in an update. The Cabin Heat (#1) pull levers (Lft&Rght) have been mislabeled “PITOT HEAT” as well. They are supposed to read “CABIN HEAT”. This small error is actually pretty dangerous when I think about. Tooltips are correct - so you can confirm a switch’s function using these.

Your GoFilght toggle should trigger the 3D switch and pitot system. I can test an approximation using FSX’s keyboard shortcut Shift+H. This appears to work on my system. Could you test this? You be able to make the 3D switch move using your goFlight toggle.

Aircraft.cfg has an entry for pitot heat; this must be set to 1 to have pitot heat available. If you are using the config I provided there should be no issue. However if you’d like to confirm this is the section to look for bellow.

Code: Select all
[pitot_static]
pitot_heat =         1.0      //typical

Pitot heat needed

Danny,

I reconfirmed that this version was properly installed.

I thought that I had a false memory of there being a Pitot Heat in the previous beta versions, as I did not see it now. Yes, the tool tips and <shift><H> confirm that the Cabin Heat is really Pitot heat. I do have it set to "pitot_heat = 1.0"

However, my GF-SECM module toggle switch does not move the pitot heat toggle switch on the VC panel. All of the other GF-SECM switches work properly, including moving the proper VC switches. However, this is also true with the default Cessna 172, so it is a Go-Flight issue.

I just finished my GoFlight panel last month by adding the GF-SECM. I now need to find out why all the GF-SECM switches except the pitot heat switch move and activate the VC toggle switches. As your GF-SECM pitot heat toggle switch works in the RV-7, I suspect that I have assigned <shift><H> through FSIUPC to another switch or key. But I don't have time to check this out today.

Until I fix this problem, I'll just flip the Cabin Heat toggle with my mouse.

Thanks for the help.

Danny,

I fixed my GoFlight toggle switch problem. I had incorrectly set it in FSUIPC to "Pitot Heat Set" rather than "Pitot Heat Toggle."
