Recent work June - gear fairings

I’ve added the stick grips made by Infinity Aerospace. Very popular grips with the sport aviation crowd. Also used on Adam Aircraft...others too. Anyway, I like the fighter style pistol grip.

This was the last modeling task...so it’s a bit of a milestone. There will no doubt be some alpha improvements, but the mesh is essentially done. The next phase is the final texture pass. Still it is difficult to nail down a completion date...so-called GMC...but the project is effectively at alpha. The polish that happens in this final phase really makes the difference.

You can see the final gear fairings for the first time. For the rivet counters out there (guilty  ) these fairings are generally hand molded by each builder. So you’ll see some variation.

Cheers
Danny

Looking good ! I wish my project was in the "mesh complete" stage! Are you finished creating the gauges too?

Hey Darrell, The gauges are at first pass at this point…working but needing polish. Still lost of work to do in this department  What are you building?

I'm working on a Sukhoi Su-31 for the adrenalin junkies among us

After building my Starduster for MSFS a few years ago and now working on the Sukhoi I've came to the conclusion that one can build a REAL airplane in about the same amount of time it takes to model one for MSFS. Have you been keeping track of all the hours you have put into this project?

I'm glad you went with the sliding canopy, for some reason I've always liked this one better than the one that hinges at the front and flips forward. Also, I don't know if you've considered it but I think it would be neat to include a bare metal (fresh from the building stage) paint scheme for those of us that want to do repaints :)

I'm looking forward to flying her!

The Sukhoi sounds like a great project…lots of cool paint schemes come to mind. It does take a long time doesn't it…but like the saying goes…you eat an elephant one bite at a time. I’m generally a little uncomfortable estimating total hours. I haven’t kept an accurate log as such, but I have a record of backup files made after each session. Someday after it’s all done I might add them all up.

G'day Darrell,

You wouldn't have any snaps of your Sukhoi work-in-progress (or even a little website like Danny's here) that you could tease the rest of us with?

Barry

Hi Barry, I don't have a website set up or anything, however, here is the link to a post I made at the freeflightdesign.com forum.. it's changed a lot since that post, I've got a lot of the parts modeled for the VC, but still a long way to go.

Very nice looking project Darrell, I can almost hear the radial howling when I look at the beautiful cowling :)

Thanks
Barry.
